Obituary of Jerry W. Tarbox

Smethport - Jerry W. Tarbox, 70, of Gifford, died Wednesday (September 10, 2014), at his residence in Gifford. He was born Feb. 26, 1944 in Port Allegany, a son of Herman Tarbox and Katherine Hults Minard. On October 14, 1967, in Allegany, NY, he married Gayle Joan Hartman, who survives. Mr. Tarbox was a 1963 graduate of Port Allegany High School. He worked at Pittsburgh Corning in Port Allegany, until he went into the U.S. Army in 1965. He was stationed in Phan Rang, South Vietnam as a Radio Operator. He then was stationed in Germany before being Honorably discharged in 1967. After his return from the service, he resumed work at Pittsburgh Corning in Port Allegany. He then worked for Kendall Refining, and ultimately for Witco Chemical Co., from where he retired. He was a member of the former Lions Club in Cyclone for many years, where he held numerous offices in the organization, along with helping secure a meeting building for the group. He was instrumental in helping remodel the facility for the group as well. He also worked in the Lions Club Concession trailer for many years at many local events. He was also a Hilltop Community Park member for many years. Jerry also pitched in the Hanley Horseshoe Leagues in Bradford for several years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Lisa Marie Tarbox of Currituck, NC one son: Wayne Evan Tarbox of Gifford, PA one sister: Rebecca Mingo of Port Allegany, PA one brother: James (Beverly) Tarbox of Port Allegany, PA 2 grandsons: Andrew Lee Tarbox Kloss of Gifford and Matthew Joseph Kloss of Aiken Mother In Law: Betty L. Hartman of Gifford Sister In Law: Jacqueline Tarbox of Roulette Brother In Law: Stephen L. Hartman of Gifford Brother In Law: Earl Stanley Hartman of Warren Brother In Law: Kevin L. Hartman of Ormsby, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, and father-in-law, Howard Hartman, he was preceded in death by one sister, Beverly Braunroth, and two brothers, Adelbert and Lester Tarbox. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 P.M., with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
