Obituary of Richard Alvin Hyde

Smethport - Richard Alvin Hyde, 93, of Smethport, died Wednesday (December 31, 2014) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born Nov. 6, 1921 in East Smethport, a son of Beaman L. and Rose Marie McGill Hyde. On Dec. 5, 1943, in Tulsa, OK, he married Jewel Vadine Aswell, who died February 4, 2007. Mr. Hyde was a graduate of Smethport High School. He was a Crew Chief and Aerial Engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Hyde was Township Supervisor for Keating Township for many years. He originally worked as a heavy equipment operator. He had been employed by several companies over the years, but the majority of his work career was spent working for Bell & Bell of Eldred, PA. He also worked for Duffy Inc. of Smethport. He was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport and the VFW Post #2497 of Smethport. He was also a member and past president, secretary and treasurer of the Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors, where he also served on various committees over the years. He is survived by: 2 daughters: Rebecca (Jerry) Crowell of Pataskala, OH and Audrey (Robert) Berne of Smethport, PA 6 Grandchildren: Richard James (Elizabeth) Hyde, Scot Beaman Crowell, Troy Matthew Berne, Jason Bradley (Christy) Tessena, Traci Lyn Carlson, and Ian Hyde Crowell 5 Great Grandchildren 2 Step Grandchildren and 6 Step Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter and son in law, Janice and Terry Tessena on Jan. 30, 2009, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5-8 pm at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 1:30 pm, with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Committal and military honors will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Erie VA Medical Center, Erie VA Medical Center, ATTN:  Voluntary Office (135), 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA  16504.
